Our History

In the summer of 1964, Gordon J. Birgbauer Jr., a man of considerable foresight and determination, purchased two lumber yards. One was in Algonac, the other in New Baltimore. In the following year of 1965, the Algonac store was built next to the lumber yard. This would be the first of many hardware showrooms for the company.

Three years later, Marine City Building Supply was erected on Chartier Road adjacent to the railroad tracks. Railroads were the main source of transportation of lumber products making this an ideal location for a new store.

In 1973 Algonac Lumber, Anchor Bay Lumber and Marine City Building Supply were united under one name and LumberJack Building Centers, Inc. was born. Two years later, the New Baltimore location was moved from Clay and Main Streets in downtown New Baltimore to the current location on 23 Mile Road, featuring an expanded hardware showroom and lumber selection.

LumberJack Building Centers continued to grow and in 1984 the Richmond store was added to the family. The new showroom and lumber yard was located on Gratiot Avenue and 31 Mile Road in Muttonville, now part of the city of Richmond. In 2007, the store was closed.

In 1991 the Marysville-Kimball Township location was built at the corner of Gratiot Avenue and North Range Road in Marysville. Four years later LumberJack responded to the growing demand for quality products and services and expanded once again and added it's sixth hardware showroom and lumberyard. In August of 1995 the St. Clair store, located on Fred Moore Highway, was opened.
